PINDSVINET er filmatiseringen af en af de mest læste franske romaner, PINDSVINETS ELEGANCE, skrevet af Muriel Barbery Romanen er af mange blevet sammenlignet med Jostein Gaarders Sofies Verden. Filmens hovedperson er den midaldrende portnerske, Renée Michel, som bag sit bistre ydre gemmer på en fascination for filosofi og litteratur og et stort kendskab til filmhistorie og hollandske malere.
