Joel er en typisk 17 årig velbegavet og pligtopfyldende gymnasieelev fra en amerikansk forstad, elsket af sine forældre og populær i skolen. En dag tager forældrene på ferie og Joel beslutter sig til at træde ind i de voksnes rækker.
