From her imprisonment as a teenage princess at the hands of her half sister Queen Mary (Joanne Whalley) to young queen, discovering the hard realities of ruling a country divided by faith and under threat from abroad, into her years of triumph over the Spanish Armada and finally her old age and her last, enigmatic relationship with her young protege, the Earl of Essex (Hans Matheson).

Taking Elizabeth's great love affair with Robert Dudley (Tom Hardy) as its central theme, The Virgin Queen is both an intense love story and dramatic portrayal of a piece of history detailing all the key events of her reign and her personal struggle to balance her personal feelings with the rigors of the monarchy.

Also starring in this lavish production are Ben Daniels, Dexter Fletcher, Emilia Fox, Sienna Guillory, Ian Hart and Robert Pugh.
