Cary Grant and Irene Dunne star in this romantic drama filled with tears and emotion. Julie and Roger (Irene Dunne and Cary Grant) have been seeing each other for some time and it isn't until journalist Roger is posted to Japan by his newspaper that he finally proposes to his long time girlfriend. As Roger Adams takes up his post in Japan, Julie Adam joins him following three months apart. Soon after her arrival she announces that she is pregnant and although overjoyed by the news, Roger's lifestyle doesn't seem to have altered to that of a married man and now an expectant father.
But catastrophe looms as Mother Nature deals a bitter blow when an earthquake strikes destroying their home and also ending their dreams of an addition to the family. The distraught couple return to San Francisco where they learn that Julie can no longer have children. Desperate to cheer up his wife, Roger suggests that they buy a newspaper in the country whilst their friend Applejack (Edgar Buchanan) works on the idea that adoption may be a way to fulfilling their lives. Their story is just beginning.
A generous helping of sentimentality, beautifully acted and compelling to the tearful end. |
