Beskrivelse:

Nine World Championships went to FERRARI drivers during Enzo FERRARI's lifetime and there might well have been more had he pursued his ambitions more single-mindedly. But this was never his way and Formula One was just one of the areas in which the charismatic Italian wanted to rule the automotive world. His was a three-pronged thrust for glory. As well as winning Grand Prix races he wanted to see FERRARI cars scoring successes in the great sports car events and he wanted his exclusive, hand-built, road-going sports cars to be the automatic choice of the daring and the wealthy.
For forty years, until his death in 1988, FERRARI achieved his ambitions. During that time his cars won Grand Prix races in every decade, took nine of his drivers to world title wins and eight times won the Formula One Constructors Championship. His road cars were driven by princes and playboys, becoming a symbol of personal success for the privileged few and the dream of many. And enhancing the reputation of the road cars were the numerous wins in major sports car races like the Le Mans 24 Hours. Eight times FERRARI won at Le Mans, six times in succession during the halcyon years from 1960 to 1965! No wonder the FERRARI road cars of that era were the ultimate automotive dream.
Now, more than forty years on, very little has changed! There is no FERRARI team in sports car racing but this allows the proper degree of concentration on the ultra-serious business of Formula One. It is perhaps one of the key factors why Michael Schumacher reigns as World Champion and why his FERRARI was the dominant car throughout the 2003 Grand Prix season. The latest in the long line of 'ultimate FERRARI' road cars is fittingly called the 'Enzo' and is a limited edition model sold only to selected customers. It is the closest thing to a Grand Prix FERRARI for the road that has ever been built. Slightly less exclusive are the F360 Modena sports car and the big V12 575LM. To most of us, however, even these 'production line' FERRARIs will remain nothing more than a dream.
This programme takes a close look at these latest 'dream cars' as well as the other FERRARI supercars, such as the F40 and F50, that preceded the Enzo. It gives you a window into the world of the FERRARI Grand Prix team and the awesome, flame-red V10 Formula One racers that currently rule the World Championship. And it charts the whole chronological history of the company's road and racing cars to show you just how the FERRARI legend was created.
