Midsomer Murders Summer Collection

Judgement Day (2002)
The village of Midsomer Mallow is in competition for the title of the "perfect village". Joyce Barnaby has already won her own competition and is now one of the "perfect village" judges. Meanwhile, Barnaby and Troy are investigating a series of break-ins in the area. When the thief, Peter Drinkwater, is found murdered, there are no end of suspects: a jealous husband; a spurned girlfriend and her irate parents; one of the robbery victims who is not being entirely truthful with the police; and finally several members of the village committee whose only concern is how the death will affect their chances in the perfect village competition. In the end, Barnaby must establish the link between these most recent events and a murder some years earlier.
Destroying Angel (2001)
DCI Barnaby and Sgt. Troy investigate the murder of Gregory Chambers who was killed when out in the woods mushrooming. He was one of four people who had recently inherited a portion of his employer's estate, principally a local hotel. With his death, his one-quarter share now passes to his wife, Suzanna, who has been having an affair with Tristan Goodfellow. It would also appear that Gregory was having an affair with Annie Salter, who is four months pregnant. When Tristan is poisoned with a type of mushroom known as Destroying Angel and the other inheritors of the estate are put at risk, Barnaby looks to find a common connection.
Dead in the Water (2004)
While attending the Midsomer Regatta with his wife Joyce and daughter Cully, Det. Chief Inspector Barnaby finds himself investigating he murder of Guy Sweetman, the rowing club's chairman who is found floating in the river. Sweetman was quite a ladies man and there is no end of suspects on that score. However, Barnaby and DS Scott also learn that the dead man was having frequent meetings with two other members of the club and may have had an arguments with them the evening he disappeared. As the investigation continues, the police learn that the secret meetings all had to do with money, or the lack of it as all involved were having financial difficulties. Not surprisingly, the motive for the murder is both greed and lust.
Orchis Fatalis (2005)
All is not well with the members of the Midsomer Malham Orchid Society. DCI Barnaby and DS Scott find themselves investigating the murder of Madeline Villiers, a member of the Society and as it turns, someone who was selling very rare orchids for huge sums. The autopsy reveals she was poisoned with hemlock. They soon after find Henry Plummer, also a member of the Orchid Society, hanging from the rafters in his garage and his entire orchid collection destroyed. What they learn is that for many members of the Society, collecting orchids are as addictive as drugs and there is no shortage of possible suspects as a result. |
