Despite suffering from learning problems from an early age, Carla Tate (Juliette Lewis) has grown into an independent young woman. When she returns to live with her mother Elizabeth (Diane Keaton) in San Francisco, Carla enrols at a vocational school, where she meets the similarly 'challenged' Danny (Giovanni Ribisi) and falls in love for the first time. However, the couple's romance does not always meet with Elizabeth's approval, especially when Danny announces at a family gathering that he and Carla have just had sex for the first time. |
