Året er 1991 og fremtiden er endnu ikke fastlagt. Sarah Connor ved, at der findes ingen anden skæbne end den, vi selv skaber! I år 2029 står hendes søn, oprørslederen John Connor, i spidsen for menneskenes kamp mod dræbermaskinernes diktatur. Magthaverne vil for enhver pris ændre historiens gang, og forhindre John Connor i at nå dertil, hvor han er i år 2029. De sender deres mest avancerede Terminator, T-1000 tilbage til 1991. Ordren lyder: Dræb John Connor – mens han endnu kun er en dreng, der ikke udgør nogen fare for magthaverne. Oprørerne sender deres Terminator, T-800, ned for at beskytte John og hans mor Sarah. Den ultimative kamp mellem liv og død, menneske og maskine, fortid og fremtid er begyndt... Arnold Schwarzenegger is back as the cyborg from the future in the most successful sequel of all time.
